Antispumin™ Defoamers

The causes of foam in any type of treatment plant are varied. In secondary treatment systems, foam is typically caused by biological activity. It can also result from mechanical action, chemical contamination, surfactants in the influent or some polymer treatments. Regardless of the cause, foams are undesirable and often interfere with operations.

Solenis offers a broad portfolio of defoamers, marketed under the Antispumin™ trade name, which are environmentally friendly and help control foam and entrained air in a variety of processes and applications. These include aerobic treatment, anaerobic digesters, dewatering centrates, secondary clarification and defoamers for thermal seawater desalination for drinking water production as well as defoamers that are silicon-free.

When used with the OnGuard™ AF control system, Solenis defoamers offer state-of-the-art performance. With the OnGuard™ AF control system, which delivers 24/7 real-time monitoring and control, overdosing foam is no longer a problem. The OnGuard™ AF control system uses a noncontact optical sensor to proportionally feed defoamer according to demand, making it possible to reduce chemical consumption by up to 50%.

Applications

Antispumin™ defoamers act as antifoam agents to effectively control problematic foam. Common applications include:

  • Activated sludge process
  • Aerated lagoons
  • Plant outflows

Product Portfolio

Our Antispumin™ defoamer product line includes:

  • Products designed to prevent foam building in centrifuges.
  • A range that is effective in controlling foam caused by filamentous bacteria, such as Microthrix parvicella.
  • Products specifically for wastewater treatment in sequencing batch reactors (SBR) biological systems and chemical-physical systems.
  • A portfolio for high-temperature flash distillation of seawater at desalination plants.

Product Benefits

Antispumin™ defoamers collapse and break down existing foam and remain on the water’s surface to prevent future foam formation. They provide many benefits, including:

  • Effective, long-lasting foam suppression
  • Improved operational efficiency
  • Reduced costs
