Crepetrol™ Creping Adhesives

Crepetrol creping adhesives comprise a broad portfolio of products that significantly improve the creping process and extend the grind cycle of Yankee cylinders and the life of creping blades.

Designed to provide superior adhesion for Yankee coatings, Crepetrol creping adhesives control both contact adhesion (initial adhesion to the Yankee cylinder at the press roll) and peel adhesion (adhesion at the creping blade), and provide a soft, pliable, workable film.

The creping adhesives provide a number of benefits:

  • Improved sheet softness and quality
  • Reduced breaks
  • Increased paper production
  • Improved moisture control
  • Reduced steam consumption
  • Reduced downtime for cleaning
  • Extended equipment life

Product Family

The Crepetrol creping adhesive family includes three distinctly different offerings:

  • Crepetrol 5000 series for structured sheet assets
  • Crepetrol 9000 series for light dry crepe
  • Crepetrol 7000 series for specialty assets

The products in these series are specialized for their applications. They account for application variances such as sheet moisture content and desired results at the creping blade. What they have in common are their advantages: Yankee protection, bulk control and improved softness.

How They Work

Crepetrol adhesives are designed to provide two types of superior adhesion for Yankee coatings:

  • Contact adhesion, the initial adhesion to the Yankee cylinder at the press roll
  • Peel adhesion, adhesion at the creping blade

The adhesives are typically applied to the Yankee surface through a spray boom. The spray boom—located after the creping and cleaning blade and before the pressure roll—uses specific spray pressures and angles to achieve the optimum protective coating.

A release aid is added with the adhesive. The release aid migrates to the surface as the adhesive works. It provides blade lubrication and ensures the correct level of adhesion for the sheet. Adhesion modifiers may also be used in the coating. These control the adhesion force, enabling superior crepe within a much wider range of moisture operation.

Recorded Results

In one case history, a towel manufacturer was experiencing poor adhesion of the towel to the Yankee dryer. The manufacturer used Crepetrol 5600 creping adhesive to address the problem, and reported the following results:

  • Improved Yankee adhesion
  • Decreased creping adhesive usage by 39 percent
  • Reduced annual costs by $200,000
  • Reduced breaks
