MicroSol℠ advanced retention and drainage solutions help producers of graphic and specialty papers optimize retention, drainage and formation — without compromising performance on any one variable. Telioform™, owned by Solenis, enables Solenis experts to manage and apply your MicroSol program broadly. As a result, you can rely on MicroSol to dramatically widen the papermaking operating window and deliver the following benefits for your operation:
Every MicroSol program starts with a machine audit to allow Solenis experts to build a program specific to your machine’s needs. PerForm™ SP, a patented structured polymer, is the backbone of every program along with an inorganic microparticle. In the simplest of explanations, PerForm SP delivers the ash retention and the inorganic microparticle delivers the drainage. The true differentiation with a MicroSol program is the synergy between the two chemistries, which allows for maximum drainage and retention without compromising formation.
PerForm SP is a highly anionic, three-dimensional structured polymer that interacts readily with cationic sites on fibers, fines and fillers in the forming paper. The SP structured polymer provides a high level of ash retention distributed evenly to increase strength retention and formation. Early generations of PerForm SP set the bar for both first pass fines and first-pass ash retention.
Solenis recently introduced a fourth generation PerForm SP technology that has raised the bar even higher and SP continues to be the best ash retainer on the market.
Solenis’ portfolio of inorganic microparticles, which includes silica and bentonite products, allow Solenis experts to build a MicroSol program specific to your machine requirements. These microparticles have unique microstructures such as particle size, surface area, structure, surface modification, and solids content that ensure optimal performance in today’s paper machine processes and add to the retention initiated by the SP molecules while promoting excellent drainage.
For optimum results, mills that adopt a MicroSol program should also consider installing PerForm VMax injection nozzles, which were developed to maximize injection velocity into the stock stream and ensure proper distribution of the chemistry. There are two VMax nozzles available — the VMax 1000 (higher volume) is designed for PerForm SP and other polymeric products, and the VMax S (low volume, freshwater only) is designed for PerForm MP silica products.
