Solenis’ extensive portfolio of paper colorants enables papermakers to enhance virtually any type of paper and board. This portfolio includes the Pergabase family of basic dyes, which allow papermakers to economically achieve brilliant shades of color. While medium and deep brilliant shades are easily achieved with these basic paper dyes, they are ideally suited for tinting newsprint and wood-containing papers and for coloring waste-based packaging grades.
Pergabase brown basic dyes, together with Pergabase yellow, orange and red basic dyes, are most suitable for coloring packaging paper and board, especially those used for brown corrugated boxes.
Pergabase basic dyes for paper offer a number of desirable properties:
Notably, Pergabase basic paper dyes have been extensively used and studied for decades and are one of the earliest portfolios of synthetic dyes used in the paper industry.
In Pergabase basic paper dyes, the part of the molecule responsible for its color (i.e., the chromophore) is present as a cation. Paper coloration is achieved by ionic bonding between cations and negatively charged compounds in the fiber. As a result, Pergabase dyes are most efficient in lignin containing furnishes such as those prepared from mechanical pulp.
