Senior Vice President, Product and Pricing Management
Varun Ratta joined Solenis in April 2017 as senior vice president for product and pricing management, and is responsible for leading the company’s global product management, equipment functions, pricing strategy and pricing execution.
Prior to joining Solenis, Varun worked as a strategy consultant in the chemical industry, helping several large chemical companies drive profitable growth, commercial excellence and EBITDA improvement results. He has deep experience in both commodities and specialty chemical sectors, and is skilled at defining, motivating and driving cross-functional efforts at the senior executive level and with the front-line sales force.
Varun began his career as a postdoctoral research associate at Virginia Tech in 1999, developing novel solutions for ExxonMobil Chemical. Subsequently, he joined Dow Chemical Company in 2000, where he worked for six years in R&D and technical sales, commercializing new businesses and innovation platforms while developing the customer base for new technologies in North America and Europe. In 2006, Varun joined Accenture’s strategy group, where he focused on helping the firm’s largest chemical clients with pricing improvement and sales and marketing effectiveness efforts. In 2014, he joined PwC Strategy& (previously Booz and Co.), leading the commercial excellence area for the firm’s chemical practice.
Varun holds a bachelor of technology in chemical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and a master of business administration from University of Texas at Austin, where he won the Kozmetsky Award for outstanding academic performance. He also has a master of science and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Virginia Tech, where he was a National Science Foundation Scholar for four years. Varun is a member of the International Honor Society, Beta Gamma Sigma, and a member of the National Chemical Honor Society, Phi Lambda Upsilon. He has been published in more than 15 international journals and has two patents from his work at Dow. Varun is an active supporter of PETA and ASPCA.
