FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WILMINGTON, Del. (USA) — Solenis LLC, a leading global producer of specialty chemicals for water-intensive industries, is proud to honor Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) with the 2024 Solenis Sustainability Award. This recognition highlights KBL’s commitment to water conservation and operational efficiency through its innovative water recovery project at the Kisumu Brewery.
Water use in brewing operations presents a significant sustainability challenge. In partnership with Diversey, KBL introduced a single-stage Clean-In-Place (CIP) system using Biocidal Acid OSA-N, eliminating the need for separate acid and disinfectant steps. This enhancement optimized water use, reduced chemical handling, and improved energy efficiency while maintaining high product quality and safety standards.
"Kenya Breweries Limited’s focus on sustainable brewing sets an industry benchmark for efficiency and environmental responsibility,” said Ruud Verheul, Global President F&B Solutions at Solenis. "By implementing innovative water recovery solutions, they have significantly reduced resource consumption while ensuring operational excellence. We are proud to recognize their achievements with this award.”
“Sustainability is at the heart of our operations at Kenya Breweries. This recognition underscores our commitment to innovative solutions that drive efficiency while protecting our environment,” said Mark Ocitti, Managing Director of KBL.
KBL remains committed to advancing sustainability in the brewing industry through ongoing process improvements that minimize environmental impact while maintaining product excellence.
Established in 2020, the Solenis Sustainability Awards recognize specific and verifiable customer projects that have, over a period of 12 months, delivered measurable results against at least one of five sustainability indicators: reduced water use, reduced energy consumption, decreased greenhouse gas emissions, optimized raw material utilization, or reduced waste. Kenya Breweries Limited exemplifies these principles through its innovative approach to sustainable brewing.
